 KEDARNATH TEMPLE UTTARKHAND


Kedarnath, this word attracts most of the people. And we start to imagine a place covered by snow and full of mountains. And in the center, there is a temple. This temple is open for many people and they do visit it.

In UTTARAKHAND, The Kedarnath temple is located near the river Mandakini. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Kedarnath temple was built by Adi Shankaracharya. But initially, The Kedarnath temple was built by Pandavas.

This raises the question, why do Pandavas went there?

So, according to Hindu mythology, after Mahabharat, Pandavas went to Kedarnath and built the Kedarnath temple for Lord Shiva. From whom they want forgiveness for their act to kill their brothers.

For the general public, Kedarnath is opened from April to November and due to extreme conditions of the region, the deity (god) is carried down to Ukhimath for the next six months.

 Ukhimath is in Rudraprayag. During winters, In the Kedarnath temple, the deity of Lord Shiva was brought here for worship. This place is named after Usha who was the daughter of Vanasur.

Now, the most important thing is 'how to reach?'

There are many forms of transport available for Uttarakhand. You can travel by train or bus or in your own vehicle, but you have to travel a little bit to reach Kedarnath temple when you reach there.

From Gaurikund, Kedarnath is 9.9km away.

But if you walk it will be 16km away.

• Rishikesh railway station is the nearest station for Kedarnath. 

• By roadways you can reach Gaurikund and from here you can do trekking to Kedarnath To reach there, many types of help are available like horses or by air (helicopter). Or you can just walk and can enjoy the view.

2013- FLOOD IN UTTARAKHAND

June 2013, there was a massive cloudburst in Uttarakhand which made a deadly situation for north India because of excessive rainfall and cloud burst dams overflowed and caused so much trouble. Kedarnath was damaged, but the temple was safe. For 400years, the Kedarnath temple was covered with snow and at times of flood a huge rock stuck behind the temple divided the flow of water into two parts and it vanished the whole town and market. And as result, thousands of people died. Even the roads were damaged. Many people got stuck there, starved for days, many were reported missing. But the temple got some little cracks. Around 10,000 people died and 4021 people were reported missing till now. Due to flood, the statue of shiva has been beheaded but people believe the head of the statue is in Doleshwor Mahadev Temple, Nepal.

Inside The Kedarnath temple, there are statues of Pandavas, Krishna,Nandi, and Vira Bhadra.

Is it safe to visit Kedarnath?

According to the experts, it is better to visit Kedarnath during summers. But it is an area that has many types of natural calamities. So it would be better to take every type of precaution.



But after everything, you should visit this place. Not only Kedarnath but all the Chardham. It has an adorable view and a positive feeling.
